UX UI Information Architecture Content Strategy Prototyping Templating
Project Overview
Northeastern University’s ITS Department (Information Technology Services) had over 20 websites that were lacking in visual consistency, information architecture and overall content strategy. The existing sites were developed on a theme that was neither ADA compliant nor user-friendly. The goal was to re-imagine their entire portfolio. Using a new WordPress theme, I created a suite of brand appropriate templates for a host of self-service websites that continues to deliver a sustainable model for the ITS Department’s digital properties.
My Role
Led the end-to-end refactor of the university’s web ecosystem using the Kernl Design System, unifying disparate sites into a cohesive, accessible, and scalable digital platform.
Applied the kernl components to meet diverse academic and administrative needs.
Reduced fragmentation and technical debt by standardizing layouts, patterns, and interaction models.

In an effort to extend the usability of the ecosystem redesign, I created design patterns within the Flex theme that mirrored those I created for the kernl design system. These page sections acted as a pattern library for the user to drag and drop into a page layout. These components have custom CSS that match’s the kernl typographic scale and are customizable in regards to content and page positioning.
I also built an image repository of over 150 curated images from photoshoots at Northeastern to provide users the ability to choose imagery without needing to access a DAM.
